"Brooklyn Dreams" l & ll |
New Work in Progress from the
series "Fragments"
Mixed Media artist Susan Volpe' is working with creative elements of
design while putting together a new series for her upcoming exhibits
this Spring. The images to the left are from the series "Remnants
and Fragments". This is a series which explores the creative
challenges in the artist's life. The work encompasses how life
itself is inherent in the art created. These images entitled "Brooklyn
Dreams" is composed of small drawings on matte paper rendered in colored
pencil, paint pens, felt pens and glazes. The small cut out pieces are arranged on gesso
canvas blocks, adhered to the surface and encased with encaustic wax.
The process is representative of early experimentation with art forms. |

"REMNANTS" and
"FRAGMENTS".............to further the artist's
vision with time.
With Copic felt and Stadler Pens, assorted water color & berol colored pencil,
paint pens all executed on water color block or cansa paper. From the
series of find the edge of painting. For the exhibit Remnants and
Fragments of an artistic life............. This exhibit was a result of
my return to the Brooklyn roots at a time when art weaved it's way into
my soul. Re-discovering art from the past which has now become
remnants & fragments of my artistic life, I have re-envisioned parts and
whole work into a new drawing/painted format. Small pieces of left
over block and textured papers were used to execute these works.
Small fine line pen find the edge drawings were made from the original
work. These drawings were photographed and used to resize
accurately with the use of my printer for a beginning sketch. The
small painted drawings were executed numerous times using varying color
combinations and media. The influence was from my early days at
Parsons New York when the study of fabric & textiles required us to
create a 6" design for repeat purposes as well as application and
exploration of color enhancements. These are not random designs
but well thought out parts of the good people and places that have filled
my life.
"BEYOND ISOLATION" a group exhibit displaying
the work of
Susana Guardiola, Susan Volpe' & Zoe Anne Fischer - Each artist works with the portrayal
of activity & life. Susana paints the essence of a person through
nature inspired vision while Susan Volpe' creates with a focus on the
life process of making art in a technique which she calls Mixed Process
Art. Zoe Anne Fischer paints the atmosphere which is our
living element. |
