Linda Boatman
I am an artist currently living in Chicago, Illinois, and working in my studio at the Fine Arts Building. I have been creating art since 1960. Drawing is my favorite form of expression. My experience in drawing from the model is continuous and well-developed.
I have great confidence drawing the human figure. It’s not about realism, but getting into the landscape of the body, and expressing my emotions. Sometimes the journey is one continuous pencil line; other times charcoal and eraser are essential to express my feelings. I’m not afraid to let things happen without regard to concept. Drawing is an immediate, intimate and focused adventure.
I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Art and Design from the University of Iowa, with drawing as a second area of emphasis. My design work includes latex-wrapped and dipped objects and "paintings without canvas." I created my thesis sculpture in etched and formed Plexiglas & acrylic, which is now in the permanent collection of the University of Iowa.
Among my artistic achievements are exhibit designs for the University of Iowa Carver-Hawkeye Sports Arena, a “Best in Show” for a drawing of my kitchen entered in the Northern Iowa Regional Juried Art Show, and a commissioned fiber sculpture for the First Christian Church in Iowa City, Iowa. I have exhibited drawings, paintings, sculpture and photography in various joint and one woman shows in Iowa and Chicago.
I am past President of the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago.
I am a Registered Interior Designer serving commercial and residential clients as far away as Brazil. I have taught design classes at The University of Iowa, the Harrington Institute of Design and the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago
My work has been enhanced and inspired by travels to Europe, China, Turkey, Australia and Japan.
